Assam singer Mayuri Saikia Becomes Target of Cyber Crime
Guwahati: Assamese singer Mayuri Saikia has recently become a target of fraud since cybercrime is on the rise in Assam.
According to reports, fraudsters pretended to be ICICI bank workers and called Mayuri, telling her that she had taken a loan from the institution.
They threatened her, saying that if she didn’t pay back a total of Rs. 1,40,000 to the bank, they would halt the release of her future music video.
Mayuri has reported this incident to the Paltan Bazar Police Station.
A top journalist and a professor from Gauhati University were the victims of cybercrime earlier.
Akhil Ranjan Dutta, a professor at Gauhati University, had a total of Rs. 15,000 stolen from his bank account, while Manoram Gogoi, a senior journalist, had a total of Rs. 10,000 stolen from her account.
