Assam: Six elephants stranded in muddy pond rescued in Goalpara
Guwahati: At least six elephants have been rescued after they got trapped in a man-made pond in Goalpara district of Assam, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place at Chaibari near Lakhipur of the district.
Forest department officials said that the elephants were stuck for a long time after dipping their toes into the pond.
They claimed that staff members from the Goalpara Forest Division reached at the location after learning of an elephant herd that had become stranded in the pond.
Officials further stated that they were evacuated after using heavy machinery to clear a path to safety.
The Forest Department said, “Six elephants were left stranded in a man-made pond in Chaibari, Lakhipur in the Goalpara district. Later, the Goalpara Forest Division employees successfully freed the elephants by digging a passageway for them to escape.”
