Assam: Social Media Journalist Arrested for Spreading Exam Paper Leak Hoax
Guwahati: A reporter operating through a social media news platform has been apprehended by law enforcement officials, charged with the dissemination of fabricated claims regarding a compromised examination paper at Jaruar Char Public High School. The arrest stems from allegations that the journalist propagated false information, creating unnecessary alarm and disruption.
The individual in question, known as Raju Ahmed, also identified as Sabur Uddin, and affiliated with the Janagana Barta news portal, was detained by the Bandihana police. The action was initiated after the school administration registered a formal complaint, citing the detrimental impact of the misinformation. The specific allegation centered around a purported leak of the general mathematics question paper, which was subsequently determined to be unfounded.
In a parallel development, the Dhubri Education Department has escalated the matter by filing a First Information Report targeting several satellite media outlets. These channels are suspected of contributing to the spread of the deceptive claims, further amplifying the repercussions of the initial falsehood. The department’s move underscores the severity with which authorities are addressing the issue of misinformation during critical examination periods.
Law enforcement and educational authorities are now issuing a strong appeal to journalists and media professionals, emphasizing the critical importance of rigorous fact-checking prior to publication. This appeal aims to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents that can lead to widespread panic and undermine public trust. The ongoing investigation seeks to identify all parties involved in the spread of the false claims and to ensure accountability.
