Assam: Sonitpur Excise Department Seizes Rs 11.5 Lakh Worth of Liquor in Midnight Raid

Guwahati, 26th September: In a major crackdown on illicit liquor trafficking, the Sonitpur Excise Department carried out a late-night raid at the Chardwara forest gate, leading to the seizure of a truck carrying a significant quantity of liquor. The vehicle, identified by its registration number AS-12-E-0246, was intercepted while en route from Arunachal Pradesh.

The operation uncovered a cleverly modified truck cabin, where 127 cartons of Arunachali liquor had been concealed in an attempt to avoid detection. This sophisticated method reflects a new technique employed by smugglers to transport alcohol illegally across state borders.

The excise team successfully seized the vehicle along with the illicit liquor, valued at approximately Rs 11.5 lakh, at the Chardwara checkpoint. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the source of the supply and apprehend those responsible for the smuggling operation. This raid marks another victory in the ongoing effort to curb illegal liquor trade in the region.
