Assam: Spear Corps Unveils Captain Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament Trophy
Assam: The Spear Corps of the Indian Army recently unveiled the trophy for the prestigious Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra Football Tournament.
This annual event, named after the brave soldier from Assam’s Golaghat who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War, aims to inspire young talent and foster a spirit of sportsmanship.
This year’s tournament will feature a thrilling competition among 12 teams from across Assam. The unveiling ceremony, held in Digboi, was organized by the Laipuli Brigade of the Red Shield Division, a unit with a glorious history, including significant contributions to the 1971 war.
The Laipuli Brigade, also known as the Albert Ekka Brigade, honors the memory of Lance Naik Albert Ekka, a Param Vir Chakra awardee who displayed exceptional bravery during the Battle of Gangasagar.
Young football enthusiasts from local schools in Digboi, along with team captains and managers, were present at the unveiling ceremony. The matches will be held at various venues in Tinsukia, with the grand finale scheduled to take place in Duliajan.
As the tournament enters its 20th year, it continues to captivate sports lovers across the region, solidifying its position as a premier sporting event.
