Assam: Special restaurant opened for elephants

Guwahati: A special restaurant has been opened for the elephants in Hatikhuli Ronghag village along the Nagaon-Karbi Anglong border in Assam.

The initiative to feed the wild elephants was stated around three years ago by Pradeep Bhuyan, director of ‘Hati Bondhu’, aided by the Assam’s Forest and agriculture departments and the locals.

Hatikhuli Ronghang villagers opened the area for elephants to eat. They also expressed gratitude to ‘Hati-Bondhu’ for their three-year efforts to cultivate the area so that elephants could eat.

It’s worth noting that the decision to cultivate land for wild elephants to graze was made in order to ensure that the elephants had enough fodder and to reduce human-elephant conflict in the area.

Farmers in the area have been able to continue farming without fear of elephant raids, according to reports. In the Nagaon-Karbi Anglong border area, there has also been a recorded decrease in elephant-human clashes.
