Assam: Speeding vehicle kills leopard, 3 hog deer in Kaziranga

Guwahati: At least four animals including a leopard were killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle on the national route 37 as it passed through Assam’s Kaziranga national park on Saturday.

The terrible turn of events follows the implementation of many preventative measures by the forest and transportation departments.

The authorities had previously established many measures, including a speed limit for vehicles for the stretch of road in response to an increase in animal mortality on the highway owing to automobile movement.

Three hog deer as well as the leopard were killed in the incident, according to forest department officials.

Officials said the tragedy occurred early this morning as the animals attempted to relocate to higher ground in the Karbi hills to escape rising water levels caused by the state’s persistent rains over the previous week.

Authorities stated that animals frequently crossed the roadway into the hills during floods, and that the department had set recommendations to ensure the safety of both animals and humans.
