Assam: Sribhumi Police Crack West Bengal Mobile Theft Syndicate, Six Arrested
Guwahati: Sribhumi city has witnessed a significant disruption in organized mobile phone theft, as local police dismantled a large-scale operation with roots tracing back to West Bengal.
Six individuals are now in custody following a coordinated operation that resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of stolen mobile devices and components.
The decisive action stemmed from persistent intelligence gathering, culminating in a late-night raid conducted by Nilambazar Police in the railway gate vicinity.
The operation yielded the capture of the six suspects and the seizure of ten sacks containing disassembled mobile phone parts, indicating a sophisticated operation involving the dismantling and redistribution of stolen goods.
The initial breakthrough occurred with the detention of Sheikh Aslam in the Suprakandi region, where he was found in possession of seven stolen mobile phones.
Subsequent interrogation of Aslam provided crucial leads, directing law enforcement to a rented residence near the railway gate. Inside, officers uncovered a haul of 39 high-value Android smartphones, alongside a variety of stolen mobile accessories.
The collective market value of the confiscated items is estimated to reach several lakhs, highlighting the scale of the criminal enterprise.
Beyond Sheikh Aslam, the arrested individuals have been identified as Nur Uddin, Tuta Sheikh, Hakim Sheikh, Amirul Islam, and Asma Sheikh.
