Assam: Sribhumi Schools Face Scrutiny After Dismal HSLC Results
Guwahati: In the wake of the Assam Secondary School Examination Board’s (ASSEB) declaration of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2025 results on April 11, 2025, Sribhumi district finds itself at the center of educational concern. The district has registered a state-low pass percentage of a mere 47.96%, triggering immediate action from education authorities.
Sri Neelam Jyoti Das (AES-1), the Inspector of Schools for Sribhumi District, has taken a decisive step to address the unsatisfactory performance. Show-cause notices have been officially issued to the principals and headmasters of all government and provincialized high and higher secondary schools within the district that have recorded pass rates falling below the critical 30% threshold.
The issued notices, directed to the heads of the identified underperforming educational institutions detailed in Annexure-A, underscore significant anxieties pertaining to inconsistencies in classroom conduct, deficiencies in administrative processes, and a general absence of robust academic oversight. The Inspector of Schools, in a strongly worded communication, explicitly stated, “The result also shows that classes are not being held regularly and properly in your school, hence depriving students from their right to get good quality education to secure their future.”
The show-cause order mandates a comprehensive explanation from the concerned school heads within a strict three-day timeframe. The notice further cautions that failure to establish accountability could lead to potential disciplinary measures as per the applicable education service regulations.
Adding to the urgency of the situation, a crucial meeting has been scheduled for May 6, 2025, at Bhikamchand Balika Vidyaniketan H.S. School in Sribhumi, commencing precisely at 11:00 AM. The agenda of this meeting is solely focused on addressing the district’s alarming academic slump, and attendance has been made obligatory for the heads of all schools exhibiting subpar performance.
This proactive intervention by the Inspector of Schools follows a wave of widespread public apprehension and demonstrations within local communities. These expressions of concern highlight questions surrounding the standard of education provided, the level of student discipline maintained, and the overall effectiveness of school management within the Sribhumi region.
