Assam State Museum Launches Special Photography Exhibition for World Photography Day

Guwahati, August 19 In celebration of World Photography Day, the Directorate of Museums, Assam, in collaboration with the Assam State Museum, has launched a special temporary photo exhibition titled “A Saga in Pictorials: Resonance from the Past.” The exhibition is open to the public from August 19 to September 30, 2024, on all working days except Mondays.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Assam’s Minister for Education, Indigenous and Tribal Faith, and Culture. In his opening address, Dr. Pegu emphasized the evolving nature of photography and its crucial role in documenting history and culture. He highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating this art form, which has seen remarkable changes over the years.

The inauguration was attended by notable figures including Sri Ranjan Sharma, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, ITFC Department, and Sri Manas Nath, Secretary to the Government of Assam, ITFC Department. The event also saw participation from academicians, photographers, researchers, students, and art enthusiasts.

Sri Ranjan Sharma expressed gratitude to Dr. Pegu for initiating the exhibition, marking the first of its kind at the Assam State Museum. Shri Arindom Barua, Director of Museums, Assam, concluded the event with a vote of thanks and encouraged residents of Guwahati and surrounding areas to explore the exhibition.

“A Saga in Pictorials: Resonance from the Past” offers visitors a unique opportunity to view historical and cultural developments through a curated collection of photographs. Each image reflects the transformative power of photography in capturing significant moments of the past.

The Directorate of Museums, Assam, and Assam State Museum invite everyone to visit the exhibition and experience the visual stories that continue to resonate through time.
