Assam: State Rural Livelihood Mission Office Faces Criticism for Absenteeism

Guwahati, September 7 – In a notable lapse of responsibility, most employees at the State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) office were absent well beyond scheduled office hours, with only two of the seven employees present by 11 a.m.

The office’s account manager, Paplu Debnath, was observed trying to cover for the missing staff and making efforts to contact and summon them after the presence of journalists was noted.

Despite stern directives from the Chief Minister aimed at enhancing punctuality across government offices, the issue of absenteeism persists, raising concerns about accountability and disrupting the work environment. This incident underscores ongoing issues of inefficiency in public services due to lack of adherence to attendance norms.

Public frustration is mounting as employees’ disregard for timely attendance undermines the government’s efforts to foster productivity and transparency. As the state leadership continues to push for improved governance, such incidents highlight the urgent need for measures to restore discipline and ensure a functional work environment.
