Assam: Students Stage Midnight Protest at CIT Kokrajhar Over 24-Hour Power Cut

Guwahati: Students at the Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar, took to the streets on Sunday night to protest against a prolonged power outage that crippled the campus for nearly 24 hours. The blackout, which began on Saturday evening, severely disrupted academic work and daily life, pushing frustrated students to demand immediate action from the institute’s administration.

The protest reached a flashpoint when students confronted Pranav K. Singh, the Dean (Planning & Development), seeking answers. During the heated exchange, students reported that Dr. Singh claimed to have strong ties with Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member, Pramod Boro. This statement further intensified the students’ anger, who saw it as an attempt to evade accountability rather than address their concerns.

Students told reporters that the administration’s silence and inaction were “unacceptable,” particularly given the severe impact on their studies and research. The extended outage left hostels and academic buildings in the dark, making it impossible to prepare for classes or complete assignments. The students have urged the institute to not only restore power immediately but also to put a robust system in place to prevent similar crises from happening again.
