Guwahati: In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court has issued a bail order for IAS officer Shewali Devi Sharma. Sharma, who previously held the position of Director at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), had been detained in connection with a substantial financial misappropriation case.
The arrest of Shewali Devi Sharma was executed by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell following allegations of her involvement in a financial scam amounting to Rs 105 crore. This large-scale financial irregularity, which purportedly occurred during her time as the SCERT director, prompted a thorough investigation by the authorities.
Prior to the Supreme Court’s intervention, Sharma had sought bail from the Gauhati High Court, but her plea was denied.
