Assam Surgeon Leads Successful Heart Transplant in Delhi

Assam: A team led by Dr. Ritrik Raj Bhuyan, a renowned cardiac surgeon originally from Dhekiajuli in Assam, successfully performed a heart transplant at Fortis Escorts Hospital in New Delhi on Sunday.

This significant achievement involved the rapid transportation of a donor heart from Nagpur to Delhi via a specially designated “green corridor,” ensuring its timely arrival for the life-saving procedure.

The donor was a brain-dead patient in Nagpur, and their heart was swiftly airlifted to Delhi to be transplanted into a critically ill recipient. Dr. Bhuyan, a highly respected surgeon with expertise in both traditional and robotic cardiac procedures, spearheaded the intricate surgical operation.

Dr. Bhuyan’s impressive career trajectory includes advanced training at esteemed institutions such as Gauhati Medical College and Assam Medical College in India, as well as renowned centers in Australia and New Zealand. He is credited with establishing North India’s first Robotic Surgery Centre, showcasing his pioneering spirit and commitment to advancing medical technology in India.

This successful heart transplant further solidifies Dr. Bhuyan’s position as a leading figure in Indian cardiac surgery and highlights the crucial role of collaborative efforts and rapid medical transportation in saving lives.
