Assam: Suspected ganja smuggler injured in police firing in Kokrajhar
Guwahati: A suspected ganja smuggler was shot in an encounter by the Kokrajhar police on Wednesday night.
According to reports, two suspected drug smugglers were arrested and 350 kg of ganja worth crores of rupees was seized from a truck at Gossaigaon in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on February 16.
The arrestees have been identified as Suman Namo and Rahul Sarkar.
During interrogation, Suman revealed that he had concealed two packets of ganja near the Bhaoraguri circle of the district. While being taken to the spot, he allegedly snatched the pistol from one of the police officials and raised the cock of the gun aiming to fire at the police.
Reports further claimed that the police chased him and fired at his right leg below the knee.
He was taken to the Kokrajhar Civil Hospital from where he was shifted to the Barpeta Medical College.
It may be mentioned that some unknown miscreants are said to have set fire to the seized truck in order to destroy all evidence.
