Assam: Suspended Darrang ASP, 3 doctors Held in Dhula minor death case

Guwahati: Three doctors have been arrested in connection with the untimely death of a 13-year-old girl in Dhula in Darrang district of Assam.

The arrested doctors are Dr. Arun Ch. Deka, Dr. Ajanta Bordoloi and Dr. Anupam Sharma of the Mangaldoi Civil Hospital.

The three doctors have all been detained for fabricating a suicide in the death of the minor girl.

The investigations undertaken showed that the three doctors made a number of errors and omissions when doing the initial post-mortem on the deceased person.

However, it was determined during the second post-mortem performed by high-level medical teams from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), AIIMS, and NEIGRIHMS that the girl was murdered and abused rather than taking her own life.

The arrested doctors were put into two-day police custody after being brought before the Special Court in Mangaldoi on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the Additional SP of the Dhula Police Station, Rupam Phukan was also detained for failing to do his job and attempting to defend the accused.

Additionally, Phukan had taken a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the accused’s relatives. He is being brought before the court, and police are requesting his detention so they can question him further.

The Dhula Police displayed extreme dereliction of duty in collecting of photographic and video graphic evidence of the incident. Moreover, it has been claimed that the OC of the Dhula Police Station exerted pressure on the deceased’s relatives to refrain from filing a written complaint about the unnatural death.

Search activities have also begun on SP Rajmohan Ray’s and Additional SP Rupam Phukan’s homes in the interim.

It should be noted that on August 12 the Dhula Police Station’s Rajmohan Ray, Rupam Phukan, and OC were placed on administrative leave after being accused of handling a case of an unnatural death of a little girl at Krishna Kamal Baruah’s residence in Dhula on June 11 improperly.
