Assam Swimmer Astha Choudhury Bags Gold With Record Timing in Dubai
Sports Desk, 21 May: Astha Choudhury, a swimmer from Assam won the women’s 100m butterfly gold medal on Saturday at the 2nd Speedo Invitational Long Course Meet 2023 in Dubai. Astha was able to win the gold medal with a better performance than before. She triumphed with a time-record of 1.01.98 metres.
A two-day competition, 2nd Speedo Invitational Long Course Meet 2023 being held on May 20 and 21 at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai.
It should be mentioned that Astha Choudhury won the women’s 100-meter butterfly event at the National Open Championship in Hyderabad, Telangana in December of last year.
Astha begged the gold medal with a record time of 1.03.83 metres.
She was followed by Jahnabi Kashyap (also from Assam) who had 1.06.61 metres and Apeksha Fernandes, who had 1.05.78 metres.
The Swimming Federation of India (SFI) organised the competition from December 20 till December 24.
Earlier in October, Astha set a new personal best time of 1.02.71 at the 47th Glenmark Junior National Aquatic Championship in Bangalore smashing the 12-year-old senior national record of 1.03.24 and the junior national record of 1.04.66.
