Assam Swimmer Shivangi Sharma Thrilled for Khelo India University Games 2023
Guwahati, 13th February: Shivangi Sharma, a prominent figure in Indian swimming, expressed her excitement about the upcoming Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023, set to be hosted in her home state of Assam. Shivangi, who previously showcased her talent during the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) in Assam, is eager to witness her state once again embrace a major sporting event.
Reflecting on her past experience at the KIYG, where she clinched five medals, Shivangi commended the efforts of the state government in organizing a successful event. She expressed confidence in Assam’s preparedness for the KIUG and eagerly anticipates positive feedback about her state’s hosting capabilities.
Highlighting the significant improvements in sports infrastructure, particularly at the Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatics Complex, Shivangi praised the state’s commitment to fostering sporting talent. With initiatives like Khelo India and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Assam has witnessed a surge in sports development, she noted.
Shivangi emphasized the importance of hosting the KIUG as a learning opportunity for aspiring athletes. With over 4,500 athletes from 200 universities expected to participate, she believes it will inspire the next generation to strive for excellence in sports.
Recalling her recent participation in the Hangzhou Asian Games, Shivangi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete on an international stage. She credited her experience at the KIYG for fueling her determination to represent India at prestigious events like the Asian Games, marking a significant milestone in her career.
