Assam: Tax Office Seizes Documents from Hotel Amid Fraud Allegations

Guwahati, 6th February: A team of officials from the Deputy Commissioner of Taxes office in Assam’s Dhubri seized crucial documents from a local hotel following allegations of fraudulent transactions reported by a complainant.

According to Mousumi Bhattacharjee, Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, Dhubri, the ‘Brahmaputra Hotel’ in Dhubri was the subject of a complaint lodged at the state’s Commissioner’s Office of Taxes regarding alleged fraudulent activities.

In response to the complaint, higher-ranking department officials directed the Deputy Commissioner of Taxes’ office in Dhubri to seize all vital records and bill books belonging to the “Brahmaputra Hotel” for further verification in accordance with relevant laws.

Bhattacharjee stated that formal procedures and investigations into the matter are currently underway. “We are scrutinizing the hotel’s documentation, and if the allegations are proven, appropriate legal action will be taken against the ‘Brahmaputra Hotel’,” she added. Until then, the hotel’s operations will be allowed to continue.
