Assam: Tea Garden Workers Protest Over Lack of Drinking Water Facilities in Titabar

Guwahati, 1st December: Tea garden workers and their families in Assam’s Titabar staged a protest today, expressing their frustration over the inadequate drinking water facilities in their tea garden areas. The Mejenga tea estate workers and their families, raising slogans against the government and local MLA Bhaskarjyoti Barua, highlighted their daily struggle to access clean drinking water.

Protestors questioned authorities about the absence of drinking water connections despite the government’s promotion of the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide drinking water to every household. The Mejenga tea estate workers and their families have been compelled to fetch water from a pond within the tea garden, leading to health issues, including sickness among minors.

“People of the Mejenga tea estate are compelled to drink water from a polluted pond despite numerous government initiatives for water provision. Numerous kids have been ill after drinking the water. A demonstrator said, “We have told the MLA about the situation, but nothing has been done as of yet. The protest emphasizes how urgently the tea garden areas’ water infrastructure needs to be addressed.
