Assam Tea: Pabhojan Gold Tea Sold For Rs 1 Lakh Per Kg at Auction

Guwahati: Pabhojan Gold Tea, a rare kind of organic tea from Golaghat district of Assam was sold for Rs 1 lakh per kg on Monday the highest price this year.

It was auctioned at a Jorhat auction house.

According to a Jorhat Tea Auction Centre (JTAC) employee, Esah Tea, an Assam-based tea brand, purchased the tea sold by Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate.

Pabhojan Gold Tea is created from the best second flush tips harvested from the tea estate and has a beautiful golden beverage with a relaxing aftertaste. The tips turn golden and give the drink a colour.

Chief Executive Officer of Esah Tea, Bijit Sarma, described the tea type as “one of the greatest tea blends from Assam.”

This tea type is unique, and it is an experience in a cup for tea lovers. Our consumers, who are located all over the world, will appreciate the flavour and value of this variety. We are pleased to be able to continue our aim of providing authentic Assam tea flavours to them,” he said.

Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate’s owner Rakhi Dutta Saikia said, “We produced only one kg of this uncommon variety of tea and are happy at this new record-breaking price, which has created history. The price it fetched will help the Assam Tea sector reclaim its lost lustre,” she said.

Following considerable demand from discerning consumers, tea aficionados, and buyers for this type of premium quality specialty tea, the variety was made for the first time, according to Saikia.
