Assam: Teacher Among Four Arrested in Major Cheating Scandal During HSLC Exams in Jonai
Guwahati, 19th February: On the second day of the ongoing High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations 2024 in Assam, a major cheating scandal was exposed at the Murkongselek Girls High School in Jonai.
During the Social Studies exam at the said school, four individuals, including a teacher, were apprehended for their alleged involvement in distributing cheats among students. The police, overseeing the examination center, discovered bundles of cheats in the scooty of the school’s watchman, Deben Patir.
Following an interrogation of Patir and subsequent investigations, three additional individuals were arrested in connection with the scandal. Among them is a teacher from a reputed school identified as Padma Kuli, along with clerk Liladhar Payeng and computer store owner Dhiraj Duarah. All accused are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The HSLC exams for class 10, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA), commenced on February 16 across Assam. However, this incident adds to the controversy surrounding the exams, as it follows a reported question paper leak on the first day of the exams in Cachar.
SEBA Chairman Ranoj Pegu addressed earlier claims of a question paper leak, dismissing them as fake after reports surfaced alleging the circulation of question paper images via mobile phones. As investigations into both incidents unfold, authorities strive to maintain the integrity of the examination process.
