Assam: Teachers Demand Revival of Old Pension Scheme in Bajali

Guwahati: A group of teachers protested against the new pension plan in the Bajali district of Assam on Monday.

Reports claim that the Patacharkuchi Vidyapith HS School teachers demonstrated for two hours to seek the reinstatement of the previous pension plan.

The protesting teachers skipped school, which made it difficult for the educational institution’s lessons to run normally.

As many as 27 members of the teaching and non-teaching staff took part in the protest.

Protests have been sparked in numerous states around the nation against the new pension plan implemented under central committee directions.

The New Pension Scheme was implemented on April, 2004.

Chhattisgarh is anticipated to follow Rajasthan, which has already agreed to reinstate the previous pension plan starting with the upcoming fiscal year.

The old pension plan paid 50% of the income drawn as a pension, whereas the new pension plan sets a minimum pension payment for retired employees at Rs. 3,500, with those over 80 receiving a supplementary pension between 20% and 100% of the base pension.
