Assam: Temporary Restrictions Imposed on Guwahati Ferry Services Due to Rising Brahmaputra River Levels

Guwahati, 28th April: In response to heightened water levels, strong currents, and the presence of debris and submerged objects in the Brahmaputra River, the Inland Water Transport (IWT) department has instituted temporary restrictions on ferry boats and vessels operating in Guwahati-based ferry services.

The surge in water levels, exacerbated by hours of heavy rainfall on April 27, resulted in waterlogging and artificial flooding in various areas of Guwahati city.

The decision to limit ferry boat and vessel movement comes as a routine precautionary measure to safeguard the passengers’ safety while utilizing water transport services.

Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts predicting additional rainfall in the coming days, with heavy storms anticipated across Northeastern states.
