Assam: Tension Erupts in Margherita Bazaar Over Cow Movement Dispute

Guwahati: Margherita Bazaar witnessed a sudden surge of tension on Wednesday evening following an altercation sparked by the movement of a cow through the bustling market. What began as a simple query quickly escalated into a physical assault, sending ripples of unrest through the locality.

The incident unfolded when a local resident, observing an individual escorting a cow, enquired about its destination and ownership. This seemingly innocuous question swiftly escalated into a physical confrontation, prompting immediate concern among onlookers.

Responding to the escalating situation, members of the Bajrang Dal and the Margherita Bazaar Committee swiftly intervened, contacting the Margherita Police. Law enforcement personnel arrived promptly at the scene, taking decisive action to de-escalate the tension.

The police detained the cow’s owner, the buyer, and the youth allegedly involved in the assault. All individuals were escorted to the Margherita police station for further questioning and verification of details.

Members of the Bajrang Dal voiced their apprehension regarding the cow’s transportation, especially given the prevailing ban on beef sales. They urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation, seeking clarity on the intent and legality behind the animal’s presence and movement through the market.

Both the Margherita Bazaar Committee and the Bajrang Dal have emphatically called for stringent action against those responsible for the assault on local residents. They underscored the critical need to uphold peace and public order within the vibrant market area, ensuring the safety and tranquility of its patrons.
