Assam: Tension Escalates at FCI Bindukuri Branch as Workers Hold Manager Captive Over Wage Delays
Tezpur: A tense standoff erupted at the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) Bindukuri branch in Tezpur, where disgruntled workers held the branch manager captive for nearly an hour in protest of ongoing wage payment issues. The situation escalated as laborers expressed their frustration over a prolonged wage crisis that has plagued them for the past three months.
Workers at the Bindukuri branch have experienced a two-month delay in receiving their wages, while those at the Tongla branch are facing a one-month delay. The mounting anger among the labor force reached a boiling point, prompting them to take drastic action. The protesters are demanding immediate payment of their outstanding wages and have issued an ultimatum, vowing to escalate their protests if their grievances are not addressed.
In addition to holding the manager captive, the workers announced a work stoppage, stating they would not resume duties until their pending payments are disbursed. This strike reflects the growing discontent among employees who feel their financial hardships are being ignored.
The situation at FCI Bindukuri has drawn attention to the broader issue of labor rights and timely wage disbursements. Local authorities are closely monitoring the developments, as negotiations between the workers and management are anticipated in an effort to resolve the escalating conflict.
The workers remain firm in their stance, emphasizing the urgency of their demands and their determination to secure their rights.
