Assam: Three arrested with drugs in Barpeta

Barpeta: In a major anti-drug operation, police seized a massive quantity of banned substances from Assam’s Barpeta district and arrested three persons in connection with the seizure.

The arrestees have been identified as Mehboob Alam Bhuiyan, Anwar Hussain, and Samed Ali.

Acting on a tip-off, Debashish Kashyap, officer-in-charge of Alopati police station conducted a raid at the residence of Rezaul Karim Talukdar alias Mosharraf in Majar Char Village under Chenga.

Officials informed that the main accused, Rezaul Karim, managed to escape under the cover of darkness by breaking a window.

During the operation, five boxes of soap containing 50.7 grams of brown sugar, along with cash were recovered.

The price of the seized drugs is estimated to be worth lakhs in the illicit market.

Moreover, police officials further revealed that the areas under Alopati police station have been a hub for drug and narcotics rackets for a long time. Despite periodic arrests, a section of traffickers has continued to operate.

Local residents have urged the officials to ensure decisive action to combat the growing issues of drug trafficking in the area.
