Assam: Three Mobile Medical Units Flagged Off in Kamrup to Serve Remote Communities

Guwahati: In a significant step towards improving rural healthcare access, Kamrup District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra flagged off three state-of-the-art Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) from the ITC ICML factory in Kukurmara, Kamrup district.

The MMUs—fully staffed with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and community mobilizers—are equipped to deliver free medical consultations, basic diagnostics, essential medicines, and referral services to patients in need of advanced care. The initiative is designed to bring critical healthcare services directly to underserved populations in the remote areas of Palashbari, Boko, and Chhaygaon in South Kamrup.

With a targeted focus on maternal health and geriatric care, the units aim to support pregnant and lactating women, elderly individuals, and others who face barriers to accessing institutional healthcare.

During the flag-off event, District Commissioner Mishra praised ITC’s efforts to create inclusive healthcare opportunities in partnership with local health authorities. “This initiative reflects a collaborative and compassionate approach to healthcare, ensuring that no one is left behind,” he stated.

Present at the ceremony were several key stakeholders including Dr. Ajit Das, Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup; Keshav Chadha, Factory Manager; Maj. Rupam Talukdar, HR Manager; Ravi Bansal, Senior Manager – Rural Health; and Sayan Majee, MSK–North East, representing ITC ICML.

The MMUs are expected to serve as a critical link in strengthening primary health infrastructure across South Kamrup’s difficult terrains, marking a step forward in community-focused health outreach.
