Assam: Three youths rescued by State Police from Mahur river
Guwahati: In two daring rescue operations, emergency responders and a brave army officer saved five young boys from drowning in rivers in Northeast India.
On October 29, three boys were rescued from the Mahur River in Assam’s Dima Hasao district after being swept away by strong currents. The swift response of Assam Police’s Fire & Emergency Services ensured their safe return without any injuries. This successful rescue highlights the preparedness of local emergency teams in handling critical situations.
In a separate incident on October 27, Major Vishavdeep Singh Attri of the Indian Army saved two boys, aged 5 and 6, from drowning in the Dhansiri River in Dimapur district. The boys had slipped into the river while playing and were struggling against the strong current. Major Attri, stationed at Rangapahar Military Station, quickly responded to their cries for help and rescued them.
The Dhansiri River, originating from Laisang peak in Nagaland, flows through Assam before joining the Brahmaputra River. Its catchment area spans 12,584 square kilometers, supporting diverse aquatic life, including 34 fish species. However, pollution from untreated sewage remains a concern, particularly near urban centers like Dimapur.
