Assam: Tiger Cub Rescued from Bamboo Trap in Gohpur Village

Gohpur, Assam – Panic and curiosity gripped the villagers of Miri Pathar in Gamiri this Wednesday morning after a tiger cub was discovered trapped within a dense bamboo grove on the farm of local resident Moni Das. The young big cat, believed to have ventured out of the flooded Kaziranga National Park, was found squeezed between thick bamboo shoots, drawing a crowd of concerned onlookers.

The incident highlights the growing challenge faced by both wildlife and humans in the region, particularly after the recent submersion of the Sixth Addition area of Kaziranga National Park due to severe flooding. This has led to animals, including deer, wild boars, and tigers, seeking refuge in higher, human-inhabited grounds such as Gamiri, Mailbazar, Batiyamari, and Roumari.

According to locals, the tiger cub was first spotted roaming in the open fields of Miri Pathar, causing initial alarm. It later sought shelter inside the bamboo grove, inadvertently getting stuck. Upon discovering the trapped cub, villagers promptly alerted the Forest Department and Helem Police. Both teams quickly arrived at the scene and have since been engaged in efforts to safely rescue the distressed animal.
