Assam: Tinsukia Police Launch Manhunt for Tea Executive Abducted by Suspected ULFA(I) Rebels
Guwahati: Police in Tinsukia district of Assam, have launched an extensive search operation to rescue Gautam Basumatary, a tea garden executive who was abducted by suspected ULFA(I) militants on October 24. Basumatary, who served as the factory manager at the Himalayan Tea Company in Jagun, was kidnapped by five armed men.
The incident, reported to police early Wednesday morning, has prompted immediate action, including an investigation based on CCTV footage from the scene.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Abhijit Dilip confirmed the footage has provided valuable clues about the perpetrators and their escape route. No ransom demand has been made yet.
Authorities have also sealed the border with Arunachal Pradesh as part of the ongoing manhunt. The police are optimistic about identifying the culprits soon and understanding the motive behind the abduction.
The incident has raised concerns in the region, where security operations are ongoing to curb insurgent activities.
