Assam: TMC Intensifies Campaign for RHAC Elections Amidst Allegations Against Rival Parties

Guwahati: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has escalated its campaign for the upcoming Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections, levelling allegations against rival parties in the process.

Dulu Ahmed, TMC’s in-charge for Lower Assam, spearheaded the campaign, accusing both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress of being in cahoots.

While addressing a gathering, Ahmed lambasted the Congress for its alleged political opportunism, claiming that numerous Congress candidates have won elections only to defect to the BJP subsequently. Furthermore, Ahmed criticised Tonkeswar Rabha, asserting that his close associates have misappropriated RHAC funds, which he cited as the primary reason for the region’s lack of development.

In preparation for the RHAC elections, the TMC has fielded four candidates in Kamrup district, which is part of the 36-member RHAC body. The RHAC encompasses 779 villages in Kamrup and Goalpara districts. The elections have attracted multiple national parties, including the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and TMC, rendering it a high-stakes political contest.

Ahmed further alleged that TMC candidates were unfairly denied recognition, compelling them to contest as independent candidates. He affirmed that the party would challenge this matter legally in the High Court. The RHAC elections are scheduled to take place on April 2, 2025, with the results expected on April 4, 2025.
