Assam to Celebrate ‘Bhasha Gaurav Week’ in Honor of Assamese Language

Guwahati, Assam: The Government of Assam, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, is set to kick off the ‘Bhasha Gaurav Week’ from November 3 to November 9, celebrating the recognition of Assamese as a classical language.

This initiative aims to foster pride in the state’s linguistic heritage and will be observed statewide.

In various districts, ministers will inaugurate the event, emphasizing the importance of Assamese and other regional languages. The celebrations are designed to instill a sense of unity and cultural pride among the people of Assam.

Chief Minister Sarma has called on citizens to actively participate in this significant initiative, highlighting the value of celebrating Assamese and the diverse languages of the state. “Let us honor the rich linguistic heritage of Assam together,” he urged, encouraging widespread involvement in the festivities.

Originally announced on October 16, the ‘Bhasha Gaurav Week’ will encompass a variety of online and offline activities, including the release of a booklet that explores the significance of Assamese as a classical language. Sarma has emphasized the need to recognize and appreciate the contributions of Assamese scholars and litterateurs who have been instrumental in shaping the language’s legacy since the 4th century.

This week-long celebration not only aims to raise awareness about the Classical Language Status of Assamese but also seeks to inspire a renewed appreciation for Assamese culture and literature among the state’s populace. As the event approaches, anticipation grows for a series of activities that will honor the language and its rich heritage.
