Assam to Emerge as Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub with New Cluster in Jagiroad
GUWAHATI: Assam is poised to become a significant player in the global semiconductor industry with the state government’s ambitious plan to establish a Semiconductor Manufacturing Cluster in Jagiroad. This move comes in tandem with the upcoming Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility (TSAT) and aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem for cutting-edge technology.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the initiative on November 17, emphasizing the state’s commitment to technological advancement. “Our goal is to position Assam as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The new cluster in Jagiroad will not only complement the TSAT facility but also attract a diverse range of suppliers and manufacturers,” he stated.
The cluster is envisioned to cater to over 61 types of raw materials, with the potential involvement of more than 150 suppliers. By attracting critical suppliers, the government aims to streamline logistics and ensure efficient delivery of essential components. This, in turn, will create numerous opportunities for local businesses and industries.
To facilitate the development of the cluster, the state government is actively working to address regulatory hurdles and infrastructure challenges. “We are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure the success of this project. By streamlining regulations and improving infrastructure, we aim to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive,” Sarma added.
With this initiative, Assam is set to become a key player in the global technology supply chain. The semiconductor manufacturing cluster will not only generate employment opportunities but also drive innovation and economic growth in the state.
