Guwahati: Following the resounding success of the record-breaking Bihu and Jhumair performances, Assam is all set to dazzle the world once again with a massive showcase of the Bodo folk dance, Bagurumba. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that over 10,000 performers will take to the stage in November to present the beautiful dance form, which is a key part of the Bodo community’s rich cultural heritage. The CM took to social media platform ‘X’ to share the exciting news, stating, “After the massive success of Bihu and Jhumoir, it’s time for Bagurumba to take the centrestage. The meeting focused on the intricate details of the performance, including the status of traditional costumes, musical instruments, and the training of master trainers. This ambitious project aims to elevate the Bagurumba dance form to a global platform. A staggering 10,000 performers from 26 districts of Assam are expected to participate in the grand spectacle. The previous mega-performances of Bihu and Jhumair were also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the Bihu event in April 2023 setting a Guinness World Record with 11,304 dancers and drummers. The Jhumair performance, held in February of this year, also received widespread acclaim. The upcoming Bagurumba event is poised to continue this tradition of celebrating Assam’s diverse and vibrant cultural tapestry on a monumental scale.
