Assam to host U-17 Women’s National Football Championship from June 18

Guwahati: Assam will host the junior Under-17 Women’s National Football Championship in five venues from June 18 to July 1.

The Assam Football Association (AFA) will host the championship which is being organised by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) in collaboration with the Assam government’s sports and youth development department.

The games will be held in Guwahati’s Nehru Stadium, Sarusajai Sports Complex, and Sports Authority of India (SAI) field, as well as Sonapur’s Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education and Dimakuchi in the Udalguri district.

The tournament will feature at least 34 teams including the hosts Assam. Eight groups have been formed from the teams.

Assam has been grouped with Haryana, Puducherry, and Gujarat under Group G.

Even though the majority of the matches will take place during the day, those at Dimakuchi will be played under floodlights. On June 21, the matches at Dimakuchi will begin.

Both the semifinals and the final will be held at Sarusajai on July 2 and 4, respectively. The teams and officials will begin to arrive from June 15 forward.

A selection camp for the Assam team is now being held in Dimakuchi.
