Assam to Install Grand Statue of Dr. Ambedkar at Secretariat by 2025, CM Sarma Confirms
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans to install a grand statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar near the entrance of the Assam Secretariat (Janata Bhawan) by August 15, 2025. The initiative aims to honor Ambedkar’s immense contributions to the nation, particularly in shaping the Indian Constitution.
Taking to X, CM Sarma emphasized the enduring influence of Ambedkar’s ideology on governance, stating, “The thoughts of revered Babasaheb are a source of inspiration for our government. Paying tribute to his unparalleled contributions to the building of the nation, we will install a grand statue of him at the entrance of the Assam Secretariat.”
State minister Pijush Hazarika also shared updates on the project, confirming that preparations are underway. “A life-size statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Ji, the architect of our Constitution, will be installed near the entrance of Janata Bhawan by 15 August, 2025. In accordance with the instructions of HCM Dr. @himantabiswa Dangoriya, I visited the site yesterday evening to discuss the progress of the installation process with senior officials of the PWD and urged them to ensure that all preparations are on track,” he wrote on X.
Meanwhile, in a separate engagement, CM Sarma met Tata Sons and Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran at his Prithviraj Road residence in Delhi on Friday. The hour-long discussion focused on Tata Group’s upcoming investments in Assam, particularly the much-anticipated semiconductor plant in Jagiroad. CM Sarma, who recently inspected the construction of the mega facility, emphasized its significance in Assam’s industrial growth.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also extended an invitation to Chandrasekaran for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, scheduled to take place in Guwahati on February 25 and 26. The event is expected to showcase Assam as a prime destination for business and infrastructure development.
