Assam to Launch Peer-to-Peer Solar Energy Transaction Scheme to Boost Renewable Energy Adoption

Assam: In a pioneering effort to transform energy trading and promote the use of renewable energy, the Assam government is preparing to launch an innovative Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Solar Energy Transaction Scheme.

This forward-thinking platform is designed to enable solar energy producers, known as “prosumers,” to sell their surplus energy directly to consumers, marking a significant step towards creating a sustainable and decentralized energy ecosystem.

Under the new scheme, consumers who are part of the state’s Rooftop Solar Scheme (RTS) and generate excess solar power will be able to trade this surplus energy through a specialized digital platform.

The initiative not only allows these prosumers to earn additional income but also fosters a more distributed model for energy distribution, creating new opportunities for both producers and consumers in the renewable energy space.

The process will be straightforward: prosumers with surplus energy, particularly those enrolled in the PM Surya Ghar program, will register on the trading platform and offer their excess energy for sale.

These energy offers will be valid for one day, and the pricing will be capped within a pre-determined ceiling to ensure fairness and transparency. Buyers, who must also register on the platform, will have access to a list of available surplus energy offers and can choose to purchase based on their requirements.

Once a buyer accepts an offer, the payment will be processed through an integrated gateway, and the transaction will be reflected in both the buyer’s and seller’s energy accounts, adjusting their respective bills accordingly. Any unsold energy will be automatically redirected to the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for further management.

The introduction of this scheme aligns with Assam’s ongoing commitment to clean energy and seeks to maximize the use of solar resources. By leveraging digital technology, the initiative encourages broader participation in the energy market, creating economic opportunities for solar energy producers while helping to bridge the energy supply gap.

Officials are hopeful that this platform will also drive increased adoption of rooftop solar systems, particularly as more households look to benefit from renewable energy solutions. The launch date and additional details about the scheme will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Spearheaded by the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), this ambitious project underscores the state’s dedication to advancing renewable energy adoption and setting a national example for creating an inclusive, sustainable energy ecosystem.
