Assam to Pioneer Northeast’s First Pumped Storage Hydropower Project
Guwahati, Assam – In a significant stride towards bolstering its energy infrastructure and embracing sustainable power solutions, Assam is on the cusp of launching the Northeast region’s inaugural Pumped Storage Project (PSP). This innovative hydroelectric storage system is strategically designed to enhance grid stability and effectively address peak power demands within the state.
This ambitious undertaking forms a crucial component of the Greenko Group’s substantial Rs 12,000 crore investment commitment in Assam. The state is anticipating a considerable economic and infrastructural uplift as groundwork for these pivotal power projects is slated to commence within the current year.
The Greenko Group’s pledge to invest in Assam was initially made during the #AdvantageAssam2 summit, a testament to the state’s growing prominence as an investment destination.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently convened a follow-up discussion with representatives of the Greenko Group to meticulously assess the progress of their committed projects and finalize crucial timelines. The Chief Minister personally conveyed the positive developments through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, indicating that work on these significant power-related ventures is expected to begin before the close of the year.
In his statement on X, Chief Minister Sarma remarked, “Had a productive follow up meeting with the Greenko Group on their investment commitments made during #AdvantageAssaam2. We are expecting work to commence on over ₹12,000 cr of power related projects before the year.”
The introduction of the Pumped Storage Project signifies a substantial leap forward in Assam’s determined pursuit of sustainable energy alternatives. This initiative is poised to position the state as a pivotal contributor to India’s broader transition towards green power.
