Assam: Tokey Gecko Seized, Smuggling Suspect Apprehended in Dhubri District

Guwahati, 26th December: In a targeted operation against wildlife crimes, authorities in Dhubri district successfully arrested an individual and seized a Tokey gecko, shedding light on the global issue of live animal trafficking.

Acting on information provided by the 31st battalion of BSF, a forest team from Chagolia Beat Account Office, Dhubri Forest Division, conducted a successful operation resulting in the confiscation of one Tokey gecko and the apprehension of a suspected member of a smuggling racket.

The arrested individual was identified as Anowar, a resident of Paschim Maisha Part-I village under Agomani Police Station in Dhubri district. Anowar was caught red-handed with the Tokey gecko at his residence.

Forest officials, who had been monitoring the accused for several days, executed a search at Anowar’s home on Monday night, leading to the discovery of the Tokey gecko and the subsequent arrest.

The investigation is ongoing, and a forest offence case will be registered following official procedures. The accused, Anowar, will be presented in court for a legal hearing.
