Assam: Troubling Elephant Tranquilized in Telamara, Treatment Underway
Assam: A wild elephant that had been creating havoc in the Telamara revenue circle for the past three days was successfully tranquilized yesterday afternoon.
The animal, which had been roaming near Telamara’s Nabil area, had caused disruptions in several localities, including Borgao Chapori, Komarpathar, and Telamara Ghat.
Upon examination, forest officials discovered that the elephant was suffering from a significant tumor on its hind leg. The affected area had swollen considerably, with a build-up of pus, causing the animal considerable pain and distress.
Furthermore, the elephant appeared to be partially blind in one eye. These ailments likely contributed to its erratic behavior and the distress it caused to local residents.
While a separate herd of approximately 12 elephants was also present in the region, forest officials were able to successfully guide them back to the Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary.
However, attempts to reintegrate the ailing elephant into the herd were unsuccessful, with the injured animal remaining separated from the group. The tranquilized elephant is currently receiving necessary medical treatment.
