Assam: Tuberculosis Outbreak Sparks Fear at NIT Silchar

Guwahati, 19th March: Fear has enveloped the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar following an outbreak of Tuberculosis (TB) disease on campus.

Scope of the Outbreak:

Eleven students from the institute have been diagnosed with TB, signaling a sudden and concerning development over the past two days. The outbreak has predominantly affected students residing in hostels 9a, 9b, and 9c of the institute.

Response Measures Implemented:

In response to the situation, NIT authorities have swiftly implemented a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) aimed at controlling the spread of this contagious disease.

Mandatory Mask Mandate:

One of the key provisions of the SOP is the mandatory wearing of masks for everyone on campus, including students, staff, and visitors. This measure is intended to mitigate the risk of transmission and protect the health and well-being of the entire NIT community.

Call for Vigilance and Cooperation:

As the institute grapples with the TB outbreak, heightened vigilance and cooperation from all stakeholders are crucial in containing the spread of the disease and ensuring the safety of everyone on campus.
