Assam: Two Arrested in Dhubri for Allegedly Spreading Hate Speech and Supporting Pakistan on Facebook
Dhubri, Assam: Authorities in Dhubri district have apprehended two individuals on suspicion of disseminating videos on the social media platform Facebook that allegedly promoted hate speech and voiced support for Pakistan. The arrests come amidst growing apprehension regarding potential communal tensions stemming from such online activities.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified by police as Abubin Miraz Uddin Sheikh, a resident of Alomganj, and Arif Rahman, who hails from Puber Gaon village. Both fall under the jurisdiction of the Gauripur police station. Their detention occurred earlier today, Friday, following the surfacing of reports concerning inflammatory content shared through their respective Facebook accounts, which authorities fear could incite societal discord.
According to official sources, the contentious digital material is currently undergoing thorough scrutiny by law enforcement. Consequently, Sheikh and Rahman may face legal repercussions under relevant sections of the law pertaining to the promotion of enmity between different groups and the disruption of public peace.
