Assam: Two Arrested in Dimau Sexual Assault Case, One Still at Large

Dimau, Assam: In a significant development in the disturbing case of a Class 9 student’s sexual assault, local police have apprehended two of the three primary suspects. Sunil Tapan and Bhaiti, also known as Luther Tapan, were taken into custody following the heinous crime that took place on November 22.

However, one individual remains elusive, prompting calls for intensified efforts to track down the remaining perpetrator. The victim’s family has urged authorities to swiftly apprehend the car driver who allegedly abducted the teenager, emphasizing the urgency of bringing all culprits to justice.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and protests across the region. On November 27, a large demonstration erupted in Sivasagar, with various organizations condemning the attack and demanding stringent action against the accused. Protestors, including members of the Assam Students’ and Youth Federation, Scheduled Caste Students’ Union, and All Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union, converged at the Daul Mukhi intersection to voice their concerns.

The public’s anger is fueled by the perceived inaction of the police, who have yet to make substantial progress in the investigation. As the community unitedly demands justice, authorities are under immense pressure to expedite their efforts and ensure that all those involved in this horrific crime are brought to book.
