Assam: Two arrested with gold bars in Jorhat

Guwahati: Two gold smugglers were arrested by the Assam Police and a huge quantity of gold was seized from Jorhat district of Assam on Thursday.

Acting on a specific information, Jorhat Police conducted a search operation at Mariani and apprehended the smugglers.

According to reports, the gold was recovered after search operations inside a train that had been stopped at the Mariani railway crossing in Jorhat. The train was heading towards Lower Assam.

Over 650 kgs of gold had been seized. However, the location from which the smugglers transported the gold has not been known yet.

The two smugglers who were apprehended have been identified as Pratap Debnath and Prasanjit Ghosh alias Bappi.

Meanwhile, the police officials are currently interrogating them.

It may be mentioned that more details regarding the seizure will become available after the investigation is over.
