Assam: Two Bangladeshi Nationals Sentenced To 5 Years Jail For Illegally Entering India

Guwahati: The District and Sessions court of South Salmara-Mankachar district found two Bangladeshi nationals guilty on Thursday and sentenced them to five years in prison for illegally entering Indian territory.

The court also ordered both parties to pay fines of Rs 10,000 apiece, failing which they will both serve an additional six months in prison.

The two convicted accused have been identified as Abdul Hai and Niranjan Ghosh.

District Public Prosecutor Biswajit Mahanta stated, “District and Sessions Judge court convicted two accused persons namely Abdul Hai and Niranjan Ghosh both are hailing from Bangladesh and the court awarded five years of imprisonment to them.”

He further said, “On March 6 of last year, Mankachar police detained Abdul Hai from the Behulachar region near the Indo-Bangladesh border who had entered India illegally and recorded a case number 163/21.

“Similarly, on May 25 of last year, police detained Niranjan Ghosh, who had also entered India illegally, and filed case number 395/21 against him. They were sent to judicial custody by the police, ” he added.
