Assam: Two BJP Leaders Escape Abduction and Assault Amid Extortion Row
Assam: In a harrowing incident, two BJP leaders from Dhing, Assam, narrowly avoided abduction and assault by a gang of five assailants, allegedly linked to an extortion demand. The victims, Ajit Das, Nagaon District Secretary of the BJP Scheduled Caste Youth Morcha, and Dibya Jyoti Hazarika, Vice President of the same unit, were targeted after reportedly refusing to pay Rs 4 lakh in connection with a government scheme.
The duo was forcibly taken from Dhing to Haidubi in Batadrava, where they faced a brutal attack. The miscreants beat them and issued threats at gunpoint. Ajit Das managed to escape during the assault, averting further violence and raising alarm about the incident.
The leaders subsequently filed a formal complaint at Dhing Police Station, identifying two of the attackers as Lakheswar Nath and Mousam Nath. The incident has not only raised concerns about their safety but also highlighted broader worries about the security of political workers in the region.
Appealing for intervention, the BJP leaders urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure robust security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Local authorities are investigating the case, with police working to apprehend the culprits and determine the exact motives behind the attack.
