Assam: Two Killed as Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Derails in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda District

Guwahati, July 18, 2024 At least two people were killed when several coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district on July 18. The train, which departed from Chandigarh station at 11:35 PM on July 17, was en route to Dibrugarh in Assam. The derailment occurred between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations in Gonda, according to media reports.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been briefed on the incident and is actively monitoring the situation. The Assam government is maintaining communication with relevant authorities to stay updated on developments.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to expedite relief efforts at the accident site. Additionally, the State Disaster Response Force has been instructed to promptly reach the location and accelerate rescue operations.
