Assam: ULB claims persons dead in Encounter not their Members

Guwahati: A day after two persons claimed to be cadres of the newly floated United Liberation for Bodoland (ULB) died in an encounter with the police in Kokrajhar, the outfit on Sunday reportedly claimed that the deceased persons were not their members.

In a video that the outfit had sent to various media outlets, the ULB claimed that the persons who were killed in police actions on Saturday were not their members. They also claimed that the deceased had no connections with the outfit.

On the other hand, the villagers of Patgaon in the district took out a rally with the dead body of one of the deceased. The villagers in the rally with the body of Jwngsar Mushahary claimed that the encounter was a pre-planned cold-blooded murder.

It may be mentioned that on Saturday, the Assam Police stated that two suspected cadres of the newly floated ULB group were killed in an encounter in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

The deceased were identified as Jwngsar Mushahary and Janak Kumar Brahma. The police team also stated that they had recovered two pistols, eight rounds of live ammunition, 14 rounds of empty cartridges, eight hand grenades, and other “warlike stores” from the deceased persons while some others lodged in the camp managed to escape from the spot.

It may be mentioned that on Friday, a new militant organization was reported to have been formed which is now demanding a separate Bodoland state.

The organization in a statement said that ULB is an arms struggle organization for the creation of a separate state Bodoland.

“We Bodo are indigenous people of Pragjyotishpur or Kamarupa kingdom which is presently known as Assam.
