Assam: ULFA-I Denies Allegations of Providing Weapons in Manipur Conflict

Guwahati, 29th February: The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has vehemently refuted reports suggesting their involvement in providing weapons for attacks against the Kuki community in Manipur and contributing to the ongoing conflict in the Northeastern state.

The dismissal comes in response to claims made by Nemcha Kipgen, a legislator representing Manipur’s Kangpokpi Assembly constituency, accusing ULFA-I of participation in the ethnic conflict in Manipur. In a press release, ULFA-I labeled these allegations as baseless and lacking any factual basis.

“The circulating news is entirely unfounded and fabricated, serving as a malicious conspiracy orchestrated by the authorities. This conspiracy has persisted for a considerable period. In the face of aggressive attacks from Indian forces, the leaders and rulers of various ethnic groups in our region have historically united in battles like Alabai-Saraighat,” stated ULFA-I.

ULFA-I further emphasized the historical unity and harmony among diverse ethnic groups in the western-southeast Asia region, which has attracted attention from authorities. The group condemned the government’s attempts to disrupt the unity of the region and foster disharmony.

“This biased approach fails to resolve conflicts and instead provides the government with opportunities to sow discord among us. I urge against spreading such false narratives for the sake of personal gain and to refrain from engaging in imaginative accusations,” ULFA-I directed at the Kangpokpi legislator.

ULFA-I’s firm denial underscores their commitment to dispelling misinformation and maintaining peace within the region, urging all parties to refrain from propagating baseless claims that could further escalate tensions.
